Saoirse has been invited to join The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this year! Congratulations to her!

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 135 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures. Those who accept the invitation will be the only additions in 2010 to the Academy’s roster of voting members.

“The work of these individuals has been appreciated by moviegoers all around the world,” said Academy President Tom Sherak. “The Academy is proud to invite each and every one of them.”

The Academy’s membership policies would have allowed a maximum of 180 new members in 2010, but as in other recent years, the several branch committees endorsed fewer candidates than were proposed to them. Voting membership in the organization has now held steady at just under 6,000 members since 2003.

New members will be welcomed into the Academy at an invitation-only reception at the Academy’s Fairbanks Center for Motion Picture Study in Beverly Hills in September.

Hello everyone!

According to The Collider, Saoirse’s upcoming film, Hanna will be released on April 8, 2011!

Hanna will open nationwide on Friday, April 8th, 2011, and wraps production next month on location in Europe. BAFTA Award winner Joe Wright, whose films include Focus’Atonement and Pride & Prejudice, is directing the movie. Hanna stars Academy Award nominee Saoirse Ronan, Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett, and Eric Bana.

Hanna (Ms. Ronan) is a teenage girl. Uniquely, she has the strength, the stamina, and the smarts of a solider; these come from being raised by her father (Mr. Bana), an ex-CIA man, in the wilds of Finland. Living a life unlike any other teenager, her upbringing and training have been one and the same, all geared to making her the perfect assassin. The turning point in her adolescence is a sharp one; sent into the world by her father on a mission, Hanna journeys stealthily across Europe while eluding agents dispatched after her by a ruthless intelligence operative with secrets of her own (Ms. Blanchett). As she nears her ultimate target, Hanna faces startling revelations about her existence and unexpected questions about her humanity.

Hanna also stars Jason Flemyng, Tom Hollander, Olivia Williams, and Martin Wuttke. Seth Lochhead wrote the initial screenplay and has written subsequent drafts, as have David Farr, Joe Penhall, and Mr. Wright. Academy Award nominee Leslie Holleran (Chocolat) is producing Hanna with the team of Marty Adelstein and Scott Nemes.

Please note that this is only a rumor for now but Saoirse and Carey Mulligan in one movie sounds very exciting to me!

It does look like Oscar winning screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher of “Precious” will be directing a film from his own original script.

“Violet and Daisy” is the title of a movie that may get a start this summer with two Oscar nominated actresses in the lead roles. They would be Carey Mulligan, of “An Education,” and Saoirse Ronan of “The Lovely Bones.”

The movie is described as a “Thelma and Louise” meets “Superbad” and “Pulp Fiction.” There’s plenty of action, and lots of girl power. “Forest Gump” Oscar winner Wendy Finerman is set to produce, with lots more to come.
